Concord-Dance πŸŽ„

When God gave us Jesus –
the One Who would save us –
Heaven could not contain itself.

Light spilled from a star,
heralding His arrival.

The earth burst into life.
Birds called for revival.

Morning Glories began
to bloom in the night chill,

and frightened
shepherds
trembled like sheep

when angels awakened
their sleep with song
as light as snowflakes,

as powerful as a
Tsunami of harmony
pouring onto earth
at Jesus’ birth.

Oh, praise Him!

New ESV study Bible

If you can read fairly small print (7.75-point font), the new ESV Concise Study Bible, which Crossway kindly gave me to review, provides an excellent, hardback edition to carry to your Bible discussion group as it features over 12,000 study notes, over a dozen articles on the scriptures and/or Christian life, and loads of maps within the text to keep you grounded in the biblical terrain.

This post on the Bible Reviewer blog tells more.

Sensing Christmas πŸŽ„by Mary Sayler

Stop! Look.
See the Christmas flowers
blooming beside the pond –
red stars with a small
green sphere at the center –
and a lone duck
winters on the lake.

Listen! Carolers
make their way down the street,
singing in the dark,
and porch lights come on
to greet them, and a light fog
covers the earth with white gauze,
and a lone duck
winters on the lake.

Feel the soft cotton
against your arms as you
slide between the sheets
and pray your sleep tonight
will not be hindered
as, on the lake,
a lone duck winters.

Mary Harwell Sayler began reading the Bible and writing poems in childhood and never stopped! Eventually, she placed over 2,500 poems, prayers, articles, and children’s stories as well as books in all genres, many of which can be found on Amazon. After collecting prayers and promises from the major translations of the Bible, she paraphrased them into contemporary English, and published the Book of Bible Prayers then Kneeling on the Promises of God.  Mary also selected poems from her previously published works for A Gathering of Poems. She provides online help for poets and other communicators for Christ while remaining active on FacebookTwitterLinkedInTumblr, and, gratefully, Agape Review.

Oh, Come! Let Us Celebrate πŸŽ„

the birth of the Christ-Child
Who rejoices at our rebirth.

The Holy Infant Jesus –
dependent
on us for His care –
shows us
how we must
come to Him
like trusting children.

Hold Him on your lap
with love,
and let Him hug you,
heal you,
and hum a lullaby.

Poetry and the new Agape Review

I’m blessed to be appointed (and, oh, I pray, anointed!) to join the Agape Review team as Poetry Editor for the journal.

This Christian-themed online literary journal accepts submissions for Christian-themed Poetry, Fiction, and Creative Nonfiction, and there’s no submission fee! (For more info, visit www.agapereview.com/submissions.)

Before I begin my new position, Agape Review accepted these three poems: “Sorrows in Senryu,” “Tenterhooks,” and “The Woman Who Once Loved Paul: A Fiction.”

Thanks for reading and, hopefully, responding!

God bless.

Settling down with Jesus

The New Testament often encourages us to abide/ stay/ live in Christ. That decision is like deciding to get married and settling down with one person. May these previous posts help us to settle down with Jesus.
